چکیده

promising Antibiotic compounds The development of novel methods to overcome the inevitable resistance that develops with common antibiotics is an important area of current research. Recent studies have shown that antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have the potential to become excellent antibiotic compounds toward a broad-spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria with less potential for bacterial resistance than conventional antibiotics (Shai, 2004). Because these compounds are highly selective toward bacteria and bacteria have difficulty in developing resistance to their effects, a large number of studies have focused on designing potent AMPs for potential pharmaceutical applications (Maloy Biopolymers; Marsh et al., 2009). One of the designed peptides, MSI78 (also known as pexiganan), rose successfully to phase II clinical trials for treating infection in the case of diabetic foot ulcer (Gottler and Ramamoorthy, 2009).

Basis for selectivity of cationic antimicrobial peptides for bacterial versus mammalian membranes.

Novel cationic antimicrobial peptides typified by structures such as KKKKKKAAXAAWAAXAA-NH2, where X = Phe/Trp, and several of their analogues display high activity against a variety of bacteria but exhibit no hemolytic activity even at high dose levels in mammalian erythrocytes. To elucidate their mechanism of action and source of selectivity for bacterial membranes, phospholipid mixtures mimic...

Cloning and Expression of Two New Recombinant Antimicrobial Dermaseptin B1 Peptides in Tobacco to Control the Growth of Human Bacterial Pathogens

Background and purpose: Rapid emergence of traditional antibiotic-resistant pathogens is one of the most important global challenges in medical sciences. To this end, substitution of current antibiotics with strong antimicrobial peptides could be of great benefit. Materials and methods: In this study, the DNA sequence encoding dermaseptin B1 (DrsB1) antimicrobial peptide derived from Phyllomed...

Antimicrobial peptide Brevinin-2R induces the secretion of a pro-inflammatory cytokine in HepG2 cells

Introduction: Antimicrobial peptides as the body's defense strategy play an important role in resistance against infection of microorganism. These peptides are able to modulate the immune and inflammatory processes through the production of defensive molecules. Therefore, the modulatory effects of Brevinin-2R, an antimicrobial peptide extracted from the skin of the frog (Rana ridibunda), was ev...

Antimicrobial Peptides of Innate Immune System as a Suitable Compound for Cancer Treatment and Reduction of its Related Infectious Disease

Application of chemotherapy in cancerous children leads to reduction of immune system efficiency. Therefore, these children are prone to various infectious diseases. The excessive use of antibiotics can bring about antibiotic resistant strains. Hence, it is essential to investigate new therapies for this problem. On the other hand, the emergence of resistance against multiple drugs is a major p...

Does the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol play a key role in predicting metabolic syndrome in the Iranian adult population?

Background: The low density lipoprotein cholestrol (LDL-C) has an important role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease but its association and predictive accuracy with metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains controversial. The objective of this study was to investigate the association and predictive ability of LDL-C with MetS. Methods: We analyzed the data from a population-based cross-secti...
